When you walk up to Clifton's Quarters on your wedding morning, you're stepping into almost two hundred years of local history. Here's the story behind the place you'll be celebrating in.
Built by convicts in 1828
The brick quarters that now welcome our brides and bridal parties were built by convicts in 1828, as recorded in Sandy Bathgate's book Locksley: The First 200 Years. The book traces the story of the convicts, the old Clifton Inn across the road and the woolshed that together make up the property today.
From working woolshed to wedding venue
The Woolshed was once a working shed at the heart of the property. We've restored it with care, keeping the original exposed beams and the timber-and-tin character that only comes with age. Even our bar was crafted from the original shearing stand and chutes, so a piece of the shed's working life is part of every celebration.
History you can feel on your wedding day
Today the convict quarters, now Clifton's Quarters, have been beautifully restored with comfortable modern touches. The bride and bridesmaids can stay and get ready together the night before, and on the wedding night the quarters are yours as newlyweds. The weathered brick walls and old timber make a stunning backdrop for getting-ready photos, and the historic gardens and old trees around the property are perfect for portraits.
